… kann sich jetzt schon einmal die SEO Pagebar 2.2 BETA dazu herunterladen.

Ich habe die SEO Pagebar heute im Zuge meines eigenen WordPress 2.6.2-Updates installiert, wobei mir ein kleiner Bug auffiel (fehlende Weiterblätternfunktion im Mittelteil der SEO Pagebar) und die fehlenden Funktionen oben.

Da ich gerade nicht weiß, wie ich den Datumswechsel zwischen deutscher und amerikanischer Schreibweise einbauen soll – vielleicht weiß das jemand hier (?) – gebe ich erst einmal die deutsche Version heraus:

How to install SEO Pagebar 2.1:

• Download SEO Pagebar 2.1
• Unzip SEO Pagebar 2.1
• Upload the folder “seopagebar” into your WordPress Plugin Directory
• Go to Admin -> Plugins and activate the plugin SEO Pagebar 2 (2.1)
• Go to the options page if you like to change the default settings.
• Modify your template like described below to see the output.

SEO Pagebar 2.1 has been tested with WordPress 2.6 and worked.
No difference to the elder version (SEO Pagebar 2.0) accept very small changes.

What does SEO Pagebar 2.1 do for you?

SEO Pagebar helps you to show not only the following pages on your WordPress Blog.

You can additionally show title tags and category names near the SEO Pagebar so that your visitors always know where they currently are. This is not helpful for visitors only. Choose your keywords wisely and let the search engines love your SEO Pagebar, too.

Theme modifications to let SEO Pagebar 2.1 work for you:

Oh. Sorry. I forgot to mention that SEO Pagebar 2 is ready for download. SEO Pagebar 2 is an SEO Plugin for WordPress. This SEO Plugin has been tested with WordPress 2.5.1 now and found to be stable. It should be compatible with WordPress 2.3 and later versions of WordPress.

What is SEO Pagebar 2 good for?

Oh well. You might have a WordPress Blog in use that does not really perform. May be other people have done a lot already to strengthen their WordPress System? People like me never use a standard motor. SEO Tuning is a lot of fun and helps you to be more successful. Some things should be shared, I guess. If you like, you can make use of a funky tool we now call SEO Pagebar:

• Insert a professional page navigation (pagination) into your WordPress Blog.
• Share more PageRank with elder articles in your blog.
• Show visitors as well as search engines what the page they are currently on stands for.
• Make use of keywords and title tags as you like.
• Make use of h1, h2, h3, … or p tags as you like.
• Feel free to work with self defined arguments in your SEO Pagebar.

Anything else you need for page pagination? Don`t think so… But if you do not like your SEO Tunings anymore there is a function to deactivate and delete your SEO Pagebar. Do not forget to make a database backup before making changes to your database and think twice if you really want to delete your SEO Pagebar. Perfectly configured it should do a very helpful SEO Job for you.

Gegenüber dem Original hat die aktuelle SEO-Pagebar den Vorteil, dass man nicht nur ein bisschen Linkjuice umverteilen, sondern zusätzlich beliebig viele Beiträge (pro Seite) voreinstellen und anzeigen lassen kann. Zur Erinnerung: Die alte SEO-Pagebar setzte 10 Artikel pro Seite voraus. Der eigentliche Vorteil der neuen SEO-Pagebar ist jedoch, dass die neue Pagebar flexibel mit Keywords und CSS-Stilen arbeiten kann, dynamisch und genau so, wie man die Keywords gerade braucht – zur Benutzerführung und auch zur Suchmaschinen-Info.

Ich antwortete Sebastian, dass das leider nicht ganz einfach wäre. “Meine SEO-Pagebar ist noch mit ziemlich viel Fummelarbeit verbunden, weil ich noch keine Zeit hatte, ein offizielles WordPress-Plugin daraus zu basteln. Ein paar Optionen sind im Admin einzustellen, die Feinjustierung in den Templates und ein bisschen was ist zusätzlich direkt im Proforma-Plugin-Code zu optimieren. Wenn Du Lust hast, das Plugin fertig zu machen, kann ich Dir die Einzelteile gerne rüberschicken…” Sebastian hatte Lust. Am Anfang der Aktion zumindest. Die Verzögerung der neuen SEO-Pagebar kann man jedoch verstehen:

… denn zwischendurch wurde Sebastian plötzlich Vater, erhielt Post vom Rechtsanwalt und entschied sich, sein gerade erst eingeführtes Frage- und Antwort-Portal kampflos zu schließen, … Offenbar hat er mit “myask.de” unwissentlich internationale Namensrechte verletzt. So soll “my ask” in Europa als Wortmarke eingetragen sein. Den Markeninhabern wollte Sebastian nicht im Wege stehen… Folglich wartet die Domain nun auf Übertragung an den neuen Besitzer – und wir alle dürfen gespannt sein, was dieser den Frage- und Antwort-Portalen von Google, Yahoo & Co. entgegenzusetzen gedenkt. Das heißt: Google hat sich myquestion.de geclaimt und leitet sinnigerweise einfach auf google.de weiter. Yahoo hingegen betreibt bereits ein klassisches Fragen- und Antworten-Portal auf answers.yahoo.com – gar nicht mal ungeschickt. Und was plant “Schmiedels Suchmaschinenriese”? Wir wissen es nicht… Das Ganze erinnert ein bisschen an eine Story, die ich kürzlich im SOS SEO Blog gelesen habe – obwohl der Schmiedel Stein und Bein schwört, dass er bei der Namensgebung nicht im Entferntesten an ask.com gedacht hat. “Es geht um eine einfache Übersetzung von Meine Frage”, sagte er. “Sehr ärgerlich…”

Zurück zur SEO-Pagebar:

Die neue SEO-Pagebar wird in Kürze kommen. Sebastian hat seinen Part bereits geliefert, gemeinsam haben wir noch ein paar Dinge geändert – und sobald ich dazu komme, werde ich die englischen und spanischen Übersetzungen einbauen, die Pagebar ein bisschen durchtesten und freigeben. Wie lange das dauert? Sorry. Keine Ahnung… eine kleine Weile noch.

Oder möchte jemand mit der unfertigen Beta-Version starten? Ich glaube nicht. Der neue Admin ist schon kompliziert genug. Denn dort wird man künftig eine ganze Menge einstellen können.

Uhhh… has been a long night, yesterday. Sebastian wanted to start his Webcoding Blog and me to introduce him into the World of WordPress. “How did you do this? What about a plugin for that? How do you manage the WordPress CMS thing? What about the Pagebar?” Hmmm… lot`s of questions… Shit.

I said something like: “Hey guy, you will not be able to learn everything within a day! And to be fair, I`m not god. I don`t know everything about WordPress but I can tell you how the things work, how to start. I can also give you some plugin support. Finally you can get a few templates to start with… But listen. I have a little problem with a Pagebar Plugin that might become a problem for you, too. So I suggest that we will not close our nightly skype developer session until this problem is fixed as well as yours. As you are a coder I`m sure we`ll find a solution for my SEO Pagebar Plugin tonight. Do we have a deal?”

Sebastian aggreed and after a lot of trial and error we finally made the SEO Pagebar Plugin work in our WordPress CMS. It was about 2 o`clock in the morning when we finished. YEAH! DONE!

We already have some new ideas for SEO Pagebar 1.2 or later. But let`s see what the current SEO Pagebar could do for us right now:

Currently SEO Pagebar 1.1. can do the following:

• Since SEO Pagebar 1.0 we already get more link juice for our articles. I rebuild the Pagebar Plugin from Elektroelch to get more spread out of it. Old features are supported but SEO Pagebar works a little bit different to share more PageRank with older articles we have and to enlarge our page navigation a bit.
• With SEO Pagebar 1.1 we now can make use of the SEO Pagebar Plugin not only in standard WordPress Blogs but also if we make use of a WordPress Page. This is important if we want to use the CMS functions of WordPress in order to have a self designed homepage.

CMS Example:

This is my homepage – This is my Blog Page – This is a category page, my ‘Internet Category’

If you tell WordPress to make use of a special Homepage Template the Blog Page normally does not exist anymore. With a little trick you can get your Blog Page back. But if you do so the Blog Page really is a WordPress Page, even if you include your index.php. And that`s why it had been so difficult to include a Pagebar in it which normally works only on index.php or archive.php. The database requests are very different.

The Results:

SEO Pagebar 1.1 works perfectly with every WordPress Standard Blog. (No exceptions known yet.)

If you like to make use of SEO Pagebar 1.1. within a CMS configuration
you should be aware of the following:

Within Pages and Archives WordPress internally works very different. We have not been able to sort out all problems we saw. Normal inclusion should work fine for everyone as long as you let your Blog show 10 articles per page (CMS solution problem only). Otherwise the system internally wouldn`t count correct so that the SEO Pagebar Plugin would have to be modified manually.

To do`s:

• Coming soon: Solution to show more or less than 10 articles per page without having to modify the plugin. The plugin should accept admin values than. (CMS solution problem only.)
• Perhaps a CSS Solution for the SEO Pagebar Plugin.

How to Update to SEO Pagebar 1.1:
Just deactivate your old plugin, upload SEO Pagebar 1.1 and activate it.

Same way as before. (You might want to have a look at the readme.txt included with your download.)
